Guns, Drugs and Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Weekend Traffic Stops

SAVANNAH, GA. (June 6, 2023): Multiple firearms, drugs and a stolen vehicle were recovered following three separate traffic stops by Savannah Police's Central Precinct Crime Suppression officers over the past weekend.

Around 4 p.m. June 2, officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that had previously fled from a traffic stop. During the stop, officers discovered a stolen pistol, Oxycodone, MDMA and marijuana. The driver, 30-year-old Kahill Ellis, was booked into the Chatham County jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen property, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Around 8 p.m. officers observed a vehicle driving erratically and failing to stop at a stop sign. The officer conducted a traffic stop at E. 37th and Paulsen streets. As a result of the stop, officers discovered a pistol with multiple magazines and bullets, 48 Xanex pills, 6.1 grams of crack cocaine, 8 grams of marijuana, four cell phones and other drug paraphernalia. The driver, 40-year-old Louis Williams, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, open container, failure to stop at a stop sign, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Just after midnight, Flock cameras alerted on a vehicle that had previously been stolen. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Officers soon after located the vehicle on E. Bolton Street. The two occupants, 16-year-old boys, were fleeing from the scene but were quickly apprehended. During the investigation, officers recovered three firearms, as well as multiple magazines and bullets. The teens were booked into RYDC on charges of theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm by a minor and obstruction.
