Queen Camilla Gifted With Disturbing Wax Statue of Herself Before Coronation

Political figures and celebrities often get recreated in wax at Madame Tussauds, and the tradition carries on ahead of King Charles III's coronation.

The famed museum revealed a new wax figure of Queen Consort Camilla Parker-Bowles.

She will stand alongside King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate at the London wax museum.

While wax figures have been around since the religious ceremonies of ancient Greece and ancient Egypt, our modern concept of unsettlingly accurate wax figures depicting celebrities of the era owes a huge debt to Marie Tussaud, the 18th-century artist whose name still adorns popular tourist attractions across the globe, and whose likeness has itself forever been preserved, both in wax sculpture and in Assassin's Creed Unity, for some reason.

Tussaud made highly detailed figures of the celebrities of the time, like Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. This tradition carries on to this day, where tourists can pop on down to the Madame Tussaud's on 42nd street in New York and see a stunning accurate wax recreation of pop star Dua Lipa (after all, it's often been said that Dua Lipa is the Rousseau of our time, and "One Kiss" with Calvin Harris is her Discourse on the Origin and Basis of Inequality Among Men).

Of course, those highly accurate wax figures can have an unintended (we hope) side effect: some folks can find them downright creepy. After all, like Verne said in Around the World in 80 Days, "speech is all that is wanting to make them human." They can be so lifelike that your brain starts to panic, and wonder if there really is a human inside of there, beneath the layers of wax. In fact, somebody oughta make a horror movie out of that. And then remake that movie with Vincent Price. And then remake it again with Chad Michael Murray and Paris Hilton. Just sayin'.

All that to say, the Madame Tussauds in London (the oldest of the company's wax museums) recently debuted a new wax sculpture of Queen Consort Camilla Parker-Bowles ahead of the coronation of King Charles III, and commenters online have been reacting to its striking resemblance. Reactions on social media posts about the new figure include words like "Uncanny," "Shockingly realistic," and "I'm willing to show 10 lucky people on how to earn 0.73 BTC."

Camilla's wax figure will stand alongside figures of King Charles III, Prince William, and Princess Kate. Though, let's be honest, there are so many Royal-adjacent people coming out of the woodwork in the real world that Madame Tussauds could probably fill that scene with a bunch of the figures they've got lying around and most people wouldn't notice. Nobody will be jarred if you slip a Dame Edna amidst the coronation crowd—they'd just assume it's another Royal cousin. Hell, you could probably toss that Dan Marino figure you've got into the display and most people would go, "Oh, yeah, guess he's in line for the throne, too." Make a game of it, Madame Tussauds. Get wild.
