A charitable act of a business family in Dimapur saw people with upper limb disability getting prosthetic implants free of cost as part of the Rotary Club's Project Saksham. According to the Rotary Club, Dimapur, 37 beneficiaries from Nagaland and the neighbouring Assam districts of Karbi Anglong and Golaghat, were fitted with LN4 prosthetic limb at a programme organised at the Rotary Centre on June 3, where MLA & Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Development, TN Mannen; and the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, were special guests.
The prosthetic implants were sponsored by the Kashliwal family in memory of the late Kailash Chand Kasliwal and Phuli Devi Kashliwal, while the event was organised by the Rotary Club of Dimapur (RID 3240) in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Calcutta Presidency ( RID 3291,West Bengal).
Rotary Clubs of Kohima, Mokokchung, Imphal, Polo City Imphal, Golaghat, Jorhat, Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan, Golaghat Branch and the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Dimapur handled the task of identifying beneficiaries.
A technical team of Rotarians from RC Calcutta Presidency oversaw the fitting of the prosthetic extension, which is estimated to cost between Rs 1,50,000 to 3,00,000. It is designed to enhance the quality of life of people with upper limb disability by enabling basic activities like eating with a spoon, writing, riding a bicycle and so on. Weighing some 450 gms, it can lift weight of up to 4 kg.
MLA and Advisor, TN Mannen, in his address, said that he was truly encouraged by the charitable act, while calling for expanding the idea and act of giving to all people in need.
DC Jaiswal said that more such programmes are needed in Nagaland, a place where public health facilities are comparatively not up to mark.
