Fifth-grade students from Most Holy Redeemer School present a donation of $1,250 to Geri Neylon, founder of Christmas Without Cancer. The students raised donations during their living wax museum event.
Fifth-grade students at Most Holy Redeemer School (MHR), in Evergreen Park, got busy researching famous people from history and learning about their interests, accomplishments and legacy.
The students showcased what they learned at the school's annual living wax museum event.
"This is a project that gets students excited about history," said fifth-grade teacher Bronwyn Azzarello.
"The wax museum activity helps the children realize that all people are capable of doing amazing things."
The event demonstrated the students’ depth of knowledge and authentic learning experiences. The students were engaged, as were parents and other guests who attended the event.
Students at MHR asked for donations from guests to benefit Christmas Without Cancer. The fifth-grade students were able to raise $1,250.
Christmas Without Cancer is a non-profit organization that provides holiday gifts, as well as basic necessities to local families who are stricken with cancer. The organization was started in 2003 by an oncology nurse working in Oak Lawn.
Christmas Without Cancer has helped thousands of families in fighting the many challenges of cancer.
