Cleveland is an interesting city in terms of religion. Its residents hail from all around the world, and they've brought with them culture that has led to the creation of unique religious sites like St. Theodosius and Shiva Vishnu Temple. Though we also have accumulated religious art in museums like the Museum of Divine Statues, you will not find a wax museum in Cleveland... especially if you are looking for one filled with figures from religious scripture. You can, however, visit such a place just about an hour south of Cleveland. Prepare for a road trip, because you will want to pay a visit to this interesting spot.
Ohio only has one wax museum, and it's close enough to Cleveland to merit a quick road trip.
BibleWalk is a surprising addition to Mansfield's landscape. Originally known as the Living Bible Museum, the wax museum officially opened to visitors in 1987.
BibleWalk is a unique destination that brings the tales of its namesake book to life.
Its founding pastor conceived the idea when he toured a historical wax museum in Georgia. It took years of dedication to build the wax museum up to its current glory, but its collections are now both surprising and impressive.
Visitors can choose from five distinct tours...
The Life of Christ is particularly popular, as it takes visitors on a tour through the "life, death, resurrection, ascension" of Christ, according to their website.
...And they'll also uncover one-of-a-kind exhibits.
The animated displays are adored by children in particular, and adults and bibliophiles will adore their rare Bible collection. Pictured above is The Walk of the Parables exhibit, which features 39 seven-foot-tall oil paintings.
In addition to wax displays that will take you back to the time of the birth of Christ, you'll also learn a bit about American history.
You'l be surprised to see what awaits visitors in BibleWalk's collection. American Votive Folk Art became popular around 1900 but faded very quickly into obscurity, and this one-of-a-kind museum has the largest collection of it in the nation. You'll also spot pieces designed and created by American wood sculptor John Burns.
If you're looking for an even more immerse experience, you may want to visit during a special event or play.
In addition to tours, dinner theater and after-hours fun are offered on select dates. For pricing information, click here.
Buckle up, because a road trip down to Mansfield is a must now that you know about this unusual destination.
BibleWalk is a destination you simply have to experience in person.
As the only wax museum in Ohio, this interesting Mansfield landmark is one you won't want to pass up. Do you know anyone that would be interested in taking this tour? Tag them in the comments!
